The Rough Kutz – Strictly Anti-Cabaret
OK, so this one is a couple of years old now but you can sometimes wait years for these guys to release something so I can’t wait for the next one! 😄
Also, I did have a review on the site that I wrote almost a year ago whilst developing the site but it was brief and didn’t do the album justice, so thought I’d rewrite it!
The Rough Kutz are genuinely one of my favourite live Ska bands. I first saw them perform way back in the mid 90’s at the Hallamshire Hotel in Sheffield and they were fuckin awesome. Their energy hasn’t changed since then, and they’re still awesome up on the stage.
Sometimes with bands that are at their best live, it’s difficult to capture that energy in the studio. ‘Strictly Anti-Cabaret’ thankfully doesn’t suffer that fate!
Thirteen tracks of hard-hitting 2-Tone-esque ska-punk make this album a non-stop skank-fest that will ensure you don’t stop moving until it’s finished.
It’s hard to pick out favourites on this album, it’s that good but ‘Feed em Beans’ and ‘Rude Boy’ just snatch it for me. Two standout tracks that just make you want to dance.
Great stuff from The Rough Kutz and hopefully we don’t have to wait to long to review their next batch of new music. Get on it guys!
