Something Special – Dance With Yesterday

Something Special - Dance With Yesterday

Ska, Reggae, Rocksteady – there is a bit of something for everyone in this offering from French outfit ‘Something Special’.

This is the kind of album that you feel you can stick on and chill and relax to, then suddenly feel the need to get up and dance as they pick up the pace and get you moving!

One such track is ‘Back to Montego’ which lulls you into a false sense of security, starting off slow and steady and then, just as you sigh, lay back and relax, the beat drops and you’re up and moving. The standout track on the whole album for me and accompanied by a great video you can find at the bottom of this post.

Other standouts for me are ‘Under the Old Tree’ which has a real Trojan Reggae feel and along with ‘Christine Collins Cries’, wouldn’t sound out of place on the label.

There’s even a reggaefied (is that a word?) reworking of Eleanor Rigby thrown in there which is interesting!

All in all, this is an excellent album and well worth adding to your playlist – it’s certainly now on mine! Available on all the usual streaming sites, I can’t seem to find anywhere where physical copies are available so think it’s purely a digital release.
