The Magnetics – Skangre Latino
Italian traditional ska/rocksteady/reggae outfit, The Magnetics have released their latest album, following their excellent 2023 offering ‘Cocktails & Fairytails’.
Entitled ‘Skangre Latino’, this is a split Spanish/Italian language album that will have you chilling in your Dr. Marten boots!
The album kicks off with some chillout ska tunes in the form of ‘Dos Gardenies’ and ‘Lo Siento’.
The tempo is then lifted somewhat with the excellent ‘Mi Mejor Error’ and a Spanish version of ‘Johanna’, which originally appeared in English on their ‘Coffee & Sugar’ album of 2019.
Slowing it back down is ‘Las Tijeras’ and the album continues with a relaxing, traditional ska sound with the next few tracks ‘Si Me Preguntan Por Ti’, ‘Scende La Pioggia’ and a Spanish Version of ‘Cuba Libre’ from their 2023 album ‘Cocktails & Fairytails’ (and also my cocktail of choice!).
‘La Pelle Nera’ then picks up the pace again a little before the album finishes off with ‘Si È Spento Il Sole’, ‘Apollo 1969’ and a dub version of the albums second track ‘Lo Siento’.
This is by no means a dancy upbeat Ska album, but it is definitely a ‘summer evening chilling out in the garden with a beer’ kind of vibe and is well worth a listen!
