Rochester, NY’s Some Ska Band release latest album
Hailing from Rochester, New York State, ‘Some Ska Band’ have released 9 tracks of ska goodness on all good streaming services, along with a limited edition vinyl offering.
Entitled ‘Every now and then…’, the feel of this takes me back to 90’s European Ska and I’m not sure why as it’s by no means a carbon copy of that sub-genre but that’s just the feel I get listening to it (and that’s no bad thing!)
Every track is great listenable Ska, but standout tracks for me are ‘Dear Tom’ and ‘Stand Up!”.
Whoever Tom is in ‘Dear Tom’, he’s not painted in the best light and clearly there is a story of a dysfunctional relationship there somewhere. Nevertheless, it’s a great danceable ska tune!
‘Stand Up!” slows the pace down a bit, bringing a reggae flavour to the release. Great stuff!
Formed in 2011, Some Ska Band started out life covering old ska, 2 Tone and 90’s classics but soon moved on to writing their own material and in 2018 the band released a self-titled, 9-track CD In 2021, they played the Supernova International Ska Festival.
