Melbournes ‘The Kittyhawks’ debut album is out now!

I genuinely did not think when I started listening to this album that I would become much more knowledgeable about farmyard animal ailments by the time I finished it, but here I am sat here, much more informed!

The Kittyhawks

The Kittyhawks are relatively new to the Australian ska scene and feature a number of ex-members of ‘Sounds Like Chicken’, one of Australias best known ska bands.

The album kicks off with ‘We Attack at Dawn’, a mainly instrumental track that sets the scene for the album nicely.

‘Danger in the Middle’ picks up the tempo somewhat and is a great ska tune with some awesome vocals. It’s one of my favourite tracks on what is a very strong album!

‘Word Tonight’ was the bands latest single release and we reviewed it here.

The band launched the album this weekend in style at Cherry Bar, Melbourne and despite some sound system failure prior to them emerging on stage managed to pull off what was reported to be an awesome gig! (see footage below)

Next up is ‘Por Que No?’ (‘Why Not?’ in English) and ‘Speed Dating for Serial Killers’ which takes the album to a dark but melodic place with a great ska punk tune with somewhat disturbing lyrics.

Back to the album itself and next three tracks ‘Rally Cry’, ‘Cometh The Hour and ‘The Dream’ provide some great upbeat ska tunes with awesome brass!

The Kittyhawks - From Brass to Bullets

Finishing off the album is ‘Pig.fm (Interlude)’ – a general mish-mash of noises and sounds (hey, it’s their album, they can do what they want! ๐Ÿ˜„) and the excellent ‘Seamus’, a sad story about ‘a little pig who’s name was Seamus, cute little guy but he had no anus’!

I couldn’t help it, I had to google it, and apparently it’s a known condition in piglets called ‘Atresia ani’. So there ya go! Judging by the final sound on the album, life for Seamus ended abruptly!

This is an excellent album and well worth a listen. It’s available now on all the usual sites and is also available in gorgeous white vinyl ๐Ÿ˜
