The Magnetics release cover E.P.

Italian traditional ska and rocksteady outfit, The Magnetics have followed up their 2024 album ‘Skangre Latino’ with a E.P. of five cover versions that have been reimagined in their signature style.
Kicking off with ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow’, the E.P., entitled “Under Cover EP 1” (hinting at more to come) covers the song originally recorded by The Shirelles. Providing an easy listening ska introduction, its a decent start.
‘It’s Your VooDoo Working’, the 1961 R n B classic from Charles Sheffield is next to get The Magnetics treatment and this one picks up the pace a little. Although the ska influence is a little more subtle on this one, it’s actually a great version.
‘Suspicious Minds’ gets a traditional Jamaican ska makeover next and is none the worse for it (and possibly better!).
Lloyd Price’s ‘Where Were You (On Our Wedding Day) is next in line and gets an upbeat twist – another great version.
Finally, ‘Love Of My Life’ by Queen finishes off this E.P. Now, I admit that I consider Queen as one of the most overrated bands ever so for me, anything you do with their songs is going to be an improvement, but this is miles better than the original and is the only way I could listen to it, so well done to The Magnetics for managing to make me listen to a Queen track all the way through – that’s gotta be a win!
Five tracks definitely worth a listen, and I look forward to “Under Cover EP 2” – I assume it’s coming!?
