Fat Sound: Travelers All Stars Celebrate 15 Years in Style

Travelers All Stars are celebrating 15 years in style with XV Años de Reggae Gordo, a warm, upbeat album that blends ska, rocksteady, and early reggae with their signature largely-instrumental “reggae gordo” sound. It’s a fun, feel-good record that pays tribute to the roots of Jamaican music while staying true to the band’s unique vibe.

From the start, the album is full of life and a perfect soundtrack for the summer.

“Another Life” kicks things off with smooth organ lines and sunny energy. Songs like “Don’t Give Up” bring a strong groove and catchy hooks, while “Desert Boots” and “Maybe It’s Too Late For Love” slow things down and show the band’s more soulful side.

The musicianship is top-notch. The horns are tight, the basslines deep and steady, and the organ, played by Lalo Hammond, is the real standout, giving the songs warmth and color. Everything sounds clean, vintage, and full of heart.

XV Años de Reggae Gordo isn’t trying to break new ground, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a solid, joyful record from a band that knows exactly who they are. If you like classic ska and reggae with a modern twist, this album delivers.

Available on all the usual streaming sites, I believe there may be a limited edition vinyl offering too, but I am at pains to find out how you can order it, suggesting it might just be available at the bands live shows.

Speaking of which, if you want to catch them live, they will be in the UK in just a few weeks time at Blam Blam Fever Ska Festival on 4th – 6th September. A few tickets are available here:
