Codename Colin Hit Hard with upcoming The Imposter EP

Codename Colin - The Imposter

Codename Colin come out swinging with their new EP The Imposter, a blistering, brass-fuelled ride through ska-punk energy, personal battles, and social commentary.

Kicking things off is ‘Hangover’, a high-octane, horn-heavy anthem that’s destined to be a live favourite. Out August 22nd with a video shot at the legendary New Cross Inn, the spiritual home of UK ska-punk, the track tells the tale of the morning after a heavy night. Fittingly, it was written the day after frontman Charlie hit it a bit too hard at a Sonic Boom Six and JB Conspiracy gig at Signature Brew.

Next up is ‘Burnout’, where the ska riffs hit like a shot of adrenaline. A no-nonsense track about the chaos of taking on too much, it’s impossible not to move to this one.

‘The Worst is Yet to Come’ sees the band take aim at the climate crisis with a hard-edged pop-punk punch. It pairs brilliantly with 2019’s ‘World’s Gonna End’ from Escape From Everything (which is possibly my favourite CC track, to which anyone who sees me driving home from work wailing along with the lyrics will attest!).

Title track ‘The Imposter’ dives into the murky waters of self-doubt and imposter syndrome. It’s a bouncing ska-punk banger, complete with big brass, skanking rhythms, and punchy punk choruses that hit all the right notes.

Closing the EP is ‘A Little Help’, a raw, unflinching look at living with depression. Honest and emotionally resonant, it’s the most vulnerable track on the record and one of the most powerful.

This EP feels deeply personal and emotionally charged. This is made even more poignant by the fact that these are the last recordings to feature the band’s much-loved late trumpeter, Snowy who sadly passed away just a few months ago. His presence is unmissable throughout.

The Imposter leans more punk than ska, but there’s still plenty of that infectious offbeat rhythm to keep ska fans skanking. It’s sharp, sincere, and straight from the heart, and I loved every second of it.

‘Hangover’ lands August 22nd, with the rest of the EP being rolled out track-by-track on streaming platforms. Bandcamp supporters, though, will get the full release on day one.

Don’t sleep on this one. It’s well worth your time.
