Call Me Malcolms ‘Echos & Ghosts’ released!
Announcing back in January that they were to be the US based ‘Bad Time Records’ first UK signing, Call Me Malcolm have now released their first full length album on label. And what an album it is too!
The album kicks off with ‘Ready, Fire, Aim’, a guitar-driven full-on ska-punk assault on the ears and it really sets the tone for what is a top notch album!
‘Nobody Knows Anything and Nobody Learns Much Either’ follows next. With strong fast paced ska verses and hard punk choruses, its another cracking track.
‘Dead Men Take No Pills’ was the bands second single release recently and we reviewed it here. It’s the third track on the album and is a superb ska-punk track.
Just from these first three tracks, you can see why Bad Time Records were interested in these guys. They will sit perfectly alongside other Bad Time artists like Half Past Two, Catbite, Omnigone and Kill Lincoln (amongst many others!). It’s a marriage made in heaven!
The next three tracks on the album ‘I Was Never Really Here’, ‘Cheers & Self-Loathing’ and the bands first single release from the album ‘One Cure To The Head, Two To The Chest’ (Reviewed Here) continue the ska-punk loveliness and are then followed by what is my personal favourite track on the album ‘Dahlia’.
The band are heading out on a UK tour later this month alongside ‘Big D & The Kids Table’, ‘Catbite’ and ‘Kill Lincoln’ and will then head off across the pond for some U.S. dates, taking in New York, Washington DC, Baltimore amongst other towns and cities!
Wrapping up the album is ‘The Snake Eats it’s Own Heartache’, the band most recent single ‘We Shall Meet In The Place Where There Is No Darkness’ which we reviewed here and ‘154bpm’, which starts with the heartbeat of the daughter of Lucias, the bands guitarists & vocalist.
This album is certainly not one for the Ska purists, but if you like your Ska music served up alongside some heavy punk guitars then this is definitely going to be right up there with your favourites. There isn’t a weak track on it and it’s really well produced. Top notch Ska-Punk!
Also deserving a special shout out is the artwork that adorns the album cover and inner sleeve. It’s created by Mark Bell, who the the band has worked with for a long time and is simply beautiful!
