Trojan Records add to ‘Essential Artists Collection’
The legendary Trojan Records have today announced two more additions to their ‘Essential Artists Collection’ series.
Available on coloured vinyl, CD and on all streaming platforms, the latest two additions are from Desmond Dekker and Marcia Griffiths.

Desmond broke boundaries with ‘007’, the first Jamaican-produced single to break into the UK top 20, and ‘Israelites’, the first reggae track to reach the #1 spot in Britain and make the US Top 10. His reputation as Jamaica’s first global superstar was subsequently cemented when ‘It Mek’, ‘Pickney Gal’, ‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’ and ‘Sing A Little Song’ all charted internationally.

An icon of Jamaican music, Marcia first made her mark internationally as half of the duo Bob & Marcia, whose inspirational ‘(To Be) Young, Gifted & Black’ reached #5 on the UK chart in 1970. The following year, the duo’s popularity was demonstrated once more when their uplifting ‘Pied Piper’ just missed out on a UK Top 10 placing. A member of Bob Marley’s famed backing group, the I-Threes, Marcia also achieved major success as a solo performer with such tracks as ‘Sweet Bitter Love’, ‘Steppin’ Out Of Babylon’ and ‘Hurtin’ Inside’.
Trojan Records Essential Artists Collection is a music compilation series that showcases the works of influential artists associated with Trojan Records, a renowned British record label specializing in reggae, ska, and rocksteady music. Trojan Records played a pivotal role in popularizing Jamaican music in the United Kingdom and beyond during the late 1960s and 1970s.

The Essential Artists Collection is a series of albums that focuses on individual artists or groups closely associated with Trojan Records. Each album typically features a selection of their most significant and influential tracks, providing listeners with a comprehensive overview of their musical contributions.
Trojan Records has released numerous Essential Artists Collection albums this year, starting with The Maytals and The Skatalites in January, followed by Ken Booth & John Holt. These compilations serve as an excellent introduction to the artists’ discographies and we look forward to many more to come!
